A City in the Community (CITC) initiative has given local young people the opportunity to combine their passion for sport and business.

CITC are currently running the Enterprise City Challenge, in conjunction with the national mobile app, Ideas Britain. The Challenge encourages business savvy youngsters to think about how they can improve the matchday experience for fans.

Enterprise City is part of a national campaign, the Premier League Enterprise Challenge which is now in its sixth year and gives local 14-19 year-olds the opportunity to learn basic principles of business and self-employment through interactive sessions.

Over the past few months, CITC have held interactive workshops across Manchester to support teams with their ideas, with the best three winning the chance to present to the Enterprise City judging panel.

Bringing together young people from football, school and community groups, this year’s challenge saw teams go head-to-head to develop a new and innovative solution to encourage fans to spend more time at the stadium on match days.

Last week the judges saw presentations from West Hill High School and The Co-operative Academy. However, it was Parrs Wood High School who were chosen to represent MCFC at the semi-finals of the competition in February.

The stakes are high for the group, after City finished runners up in the national Premier League Enterprise Challenge finals last year.

In addition to Enterprise City, the Club are also supporting Ideas Britain’s Innovation in Sport competition this season: #InSport. Participants from across the UK are invited to download the mobile app and submit their best ideas for making improvements in the world of sport for fans, participants and the community.

Ideas Britain

Once submitted, Ideas Coaches, including three Manchester City representatives, provide feedback and offer support to those taking part. All of the entrants are in for a once in lifetime chance to enjoy a bespoke work experience opportunity with the Club.

Andrew Gilligan, Manchester City Football Club judge said: “Being a judge for the Club final of the Enterprise City Challenge was a fantastic experience for all of us. The business ideas we were presented with were incredibly impressive and detailed. It was clear that all of the participants put a lot of hard work and time into their business ideas and I think it certainly paid off.

“We’ve seen the same level of creativity and dedication in the ideas being submitted on the Ideas Britain app and hopefully the ideas keep on rolling in and City fans don’t miss their opportunity to get involved. The competition is open to everyone and we can’t wait to see what innovative ideas out there are waiting to be discovered and put into action.”
